CRACKING THE CODE: UNDERSTANDING WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY STYLES
Cracking the Code: Understanding Wedding Photography Styles
Wedding photography styles are as diverse as snowflakes - from traditional, staged shots to candid, documentary-style images. It's important to understand the different styles of wedding photography to find a photographer whose style syncs with your own.
Here are some of the most popular wedding photography styles:
1. Traditional - this style features staged shots of the bride, groom, and wedding party.
2. Photojournalistic - this style captures spontaneous moments throughout the day, with minimal direction from the photographer.
3. Fine Art - this style creates artistic and creative images that are often heavily edited.
4. Alternative style - this style creates images that are true to your personality and representation and usually combined with a documentary, honest and authentic approach
5. Luxury - this photography is captured by a multi award winning professional photographer, providing a fantastic customer journey, communication and final product
5. Documentary - *this style is all about capturing the day as it unfolds, with little to no direction from the photographer.
Take a beat to think about the style of wedding photography that resonates with you, and then look for a photographer who specialises in that style.
*We are known for our luxury alternative style and unique natural documentary style and approach at weddings in and around Leicester

THE ART OF RESEARCH: SIFTING THROUGH POTENTIAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
Before making your choice, it's essential to do your homework. Start by poking around amongst friends and family members for any recommendations. The internet is also your oyster for searching for wedding photographers in Leicestershire.
Once you've got a list of potential photographers, spend some time trawling through their website and portfolio. Hunt for reviews and testimonials from past clients. These will give you an idea of the quality of their work and their rapport with their clients.
Also, check if the photographer is available on your wedding day and how they come across in their communication, does it match your vibe?
THE INTERVIEW: QUESTIONS TO ASK A POTENTIAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Before securing a wedding photographer, it's essential to quiz them a bit to ensure they're the right fit for you. Here are some questions you can throw at them:
A photographer worth their salt already has it all down so you shouldn’t have to ask things like: “What's your plan B if something happens to your equipment? or Do you have liability insurance?” of course they do they are a pro… right?
Instead of “photographysplaining” we wanted to add some value to your research and here is a list of some great questions to ask your potential wedding photographer, we think that should be Ed - but we are biased obviously!
"What's your photography style like?"
"Can I have a gander at more images from a recent wedding you've photographed?"
"How many images can I expect from my wedding day?"
"What's your secret to capturing candid moments?"
"How do you adapt to unexpected changes in the timeline on the wedding day?"
"What's your favorite part about shooting weddings? What gets your creative juices flowing?"
"How do you blend into the background during intimate moments, but still get that perfect shot?"
"Do you have any go-to strategies for getting natural, candid shots? We love those unscripted moments!"
"We have a few family traditions that we're including in the wedding. How do you usually approach capturing those unique elements?"
“Imagine you're shooting a movie of our wedding day. What's your approach to storytelling through your photos?"
"In your experience, what are some overlooked shots that you think more couples should ask for?"
"Have you ever encountered a wedding 'disaster' and turned it into a great photo opportunity? We'd love to hear the story!"
"We want to make sure our personalities shine through in the photos. How do you bring out the real 'us'?"
“We're big fans of your work. Do you have a favorite wedding photo you've ever taken, and could you tell us the story behind it?"
Remember, your photographer is there to work with you and help you capture your day perfectly. Don't hesitate to open up a dialogue with them about what you're looking for.
Popping these questions will help you gain a deeper understanding of the photographer's experience, style, and approach to wedding photography.
A good photographer can tell you all about things, but a truly exceptional photographer will be talking about your story, your values and beliefs as they know its not about their own needs but its all about you as a couple and your loved ones.
Many magazines and blogs give you a cookie cutter questions list - but honestly the best way is to meet face to face and have a good old fashioned chin wag.
